Last week, representatives from the Yorkshire & Humber Care Association Alliance (YHCAA) Executive Committee were pleased to attend and present at the CQC Adult Social Care All‑North Meeting.
We shared an overview of who we are, the work of the Alliance across our region, and the importance of strong, transparent engagement between CQC and the provider sector.
During our session, we highlighted the challenges and realities adult social care providers are navigating every day, in the context of the impact on the day to day provision of care and running of the services. We gave real, lived examples. CQC can bear in mind these challenges and their impact when they are inspecting services.
The challenges included:
🔹 Funding pressures, including commissioning practices that challenge sustainability
🔹 Staffing challenges, such as:
🔹 Lack of parity and equity of pay, conditions and respect compared to statutory partners
🔹 Changes to international recruitment
🔹An ageing Registered Manager workforce
🔹The day‑to‑day operational pressures facing services
🔹 Increasing complexity of need among people drawing on care
🔹 Growing regulatory and compliance expectations, which continue to rise year‑on‑year
We welcome ongoing opportunities to share provider insight directly with CQC colleagues and to strengthen understanding of the pressures, realities and innovation within our sector. It has been agreed that we will attend all future CQC ASC All North meetings going forward.
