Update from Providers Unite – Visa Changes Impacting Social Care Workforce

Providers Unite, representing care and support providers across the UK, has sent a 32,378-strong open letter to the Chancellor expressing deep concern about the government’s proposals in ‘A Fairer Pathway to Settlement’.

The changes include:

✅ Extending the wait for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) from 5 years to 15 years for many on Health and Care Worker visas
✅ Increasing salary thresholds
✅ Restricting overseas care worker entry after July 2025

These proposals will have a major impact on the social care workforce, particularly those in lower-paid roles. It will also significantly affect those who choose to remain and could ultimately find themselves on what may soon be the national minimum wage when it catches up with their current salary.

Additionally, the proposed ‘no debt’ requirement is an unfair and discriminatory measure, creating further barriers for dedicated workers who have already contributed so much to our sector.

Providers Unite has confirmed the letter has been received by the Chancellor.

As part of the Providers Unite coalition, YHCAA stands with care providers across the UK in calling for fair and sustainable immigration policies that protect our sector and the people we support.
