Positive Engagement with CQC – A Step Forward

09/10/2025

We wanted to share an important update following a recent meeting between the Care Association Alliance (CAA), the Yorkshire & Humber Care Association Alliance (YHCAA), and Chris Badger, the new Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care at the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

We know that many of you have experienced significant challenges in recent years, and we want to acknowledge the frustration and concern that has built up around the performance and responsiveness of CQC. At KirCCA, we fully recognise that the system has not always felt fit for purpose, and we understand the impact this has had on providers, staff, and the people you care for.

That’s why we’re pleased to report back on a very positive and productive meeting that marks a potential turning point. Chris Badger was open, engaged, and clear in his commitment to working collaboratively with care associations like ours to drive meaningful change in how adult social care is regulated and supported.

“We’re happy to report back on a very positive meeting we’ve just had, bringing together the Care Association Alliance and the Yorkshire & Humber Care Association Alliance to meet Chris Badger, the new Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care at the Care Quality Commission (CQC). During a very productive meeting Chris set out his plan and vision for adult social care CQC regulation and support. Chris looks forward to a collaborative working relationship”

In attendance were Melanie Weatherley MBE, Co-Chair of the CAA; James Creegan, CEO of Kirklees and Calderdale Care Association; John Pattinson, CEO of the Independent Care Group; Adam Knights, Co-Chair of the North and North East Lincolnshire Care Association; Louise Bestwick, CEO of the Bradford Care Association; and Peter Hodkinson, Chair of Leeds Care Association.

This meeting was a strong first step towards rebuilding trust and shaping a regulatory environment that truly supports the sector. We will continue to engage with CQC at both regional and national levels, ensuring your voices are heard and your experiences inform future improvements.

Thank you for your continued dedication and resilience. We’ll keep you updated as this relationship develops and as opportunities arise for you to contribute to the conversation.
